Associates Newsletter September 11, 2008 Dear Ladies, Here comes a new year. Hope you are ready for it. I hope all of you can attend our October meeting. It will be nice to see everyone here. Lynne Stewart is working very hard to make this a great day, as are the rest of our trustees. The fall flower sale has passed. Thanks to those of you who ordered. We had a busy day at the Grand Prix the Saturday before Labor Day. Thanks to Julie Harper for taking charge of that project. We made $1000. Several chapter chairs attended our last board meeting. I am sorry I was not able to be there. I am sitting in my car at the college and I see all these young folks walking around and they seem so happy. I can see the soccer players playing down at the far end of campus. There is a group of girls walking proudly down the walk talking to one another. In my eyes I can see all the ladies past and present doing the fall festival – what fun we had! A young man and his son just walked by, the son checking out everything. Without you lovely ladies this would not have happened. You are a gift from God, and the college still needs you. When you feel weary, tired, and discouraged sit back and think of all you have done to help young people enjoy a safe and wonderful college. Again, please join us at the 50th Anniversary Kick-Off meeting on Saturday, October 11th beginning at 11:00 am. You will be blessed at the sight. Remember to soar with the eagles and not grow weary. Yours in Christ, Jeannette Schiele President
Click banner to visit Rochester College website. Back to TopDear Rochester College Associates: Have you been on campus lately? If not, I think you would be pleased with some of the things that have happened. First, take a look into the Chapel area. You will find fresh paint, new carpet, and drapes. The students have responded positively to the “freshening up” of the area. It extends into the hall and across to the Student Café. Second, there is the chapel experience itself. We have a large class of freshmen, and their enthusiasm for college life is contagious. They sing with joy. They are respectful of speakers. They act like mature young men and women – who love coming into the presence of God for worship. Third, there is a sense of excitement and positive expectation among these young men and women. There is a certain “electricity” in the air. It is exhilarating to be among them. If you haven’t been on campus lately, take this as my personal invitation to visit soon. Walk through familiar places. See some unfamiliar faces. Make your contribution to the atmosphere that makes Rochester College such an exciting place to be right now. In the meanwhile, until you can visit us in person, continue to pray for all of us who are part of the school’s daily life. And know that you are appreciated for all you do to make it possible. Sincerely, Rubel Shelly Interim President 50 year celebration

Are You Using Scrip?
If you are a regular SCRIP user, we thank you so much! Last year the Associates raised $8,000 with the SCRIP program. But we can do so much more! Analyze your regular spending, and consider buying SCR IP cards for eating out, gas, home improvements, clothing, and whatever else you regularly purchase. We now sell WALMART SCRIP, which is also good at SAMS Club. I KNOW many of you shop at SAMS! PLEASE USE SCRIP.
For a complete list of SCRIP participants, go to www.glscrip.com/retailerlist/index.aspx and click on Print a list, either alphabetically or by category. If you do not have access to a computer, contact Lynne Stewart at 248-218-2092. She will send you a list in the mail. For additional information about the SCRIP program, please contact Ann Luchsinger or Lynne Stewart. Five hundred families buying $50 a month in SCRIP gift cards could raise $18,000 for Rochester College in one year. WE CAN DO THAT!

Mark Your Calendar! Back to Top Associates 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Meeting - October 11, 2008 As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of Rochester College, the first Associates meeting of the school year is going to be a very special one! Our October meeting is on a Saturday so that our chapter members who are far away can come and still get home before dark. We are making this a very special day, with food, fun, business, and inspiration all rolled into one. Our hope is that EVERY chapter will attend, as well as Associates who are not currently associated with a chapter. We hope you are all planning to come! Lynne Stewart will be contacting each chapter chair within the next couple of weeks to get an estimated count so we know how many tables to set! If you do not belong to a particular chapter but are planning to attend, please contact Lynne at lestewart@rc.edu, or call at 248-218-2092. For the Pot-Luck, please bring a salad, side dish, main dish or dessert to pass. The last time we had a pot-luck, out variety was wonderful. To insure that we don’t get too many desserts and not enough other dishes, if you bring dessert, please also bring a small side dish or salad. Our day will take place in the beautiful Rochester College Theatre. We will begin at 11:00 am and will end by 3:00 pm. Our day will include: § Devotional § Pot-Luck Lunch § Presentation of Pioneer Spirit Pin § Business Meeting § Sharing of successful fundraising ideas from chapter representatives § Associate’s Endowed Scholarship Fund – Elton Albright, Development Office § Presentation of First Associates Hall of Honor Recipients § Inspirational Message - Sherri Cummins, South Lyon Associates Author of Diva’s Devotions to Go and Pink Ribbon Devotions to Go Please make this meeting a priority! Plan to Attend! 2008–2009 Associates General Meetings will be held in October, December, February and April
Turn Leftovers Into Dollars Back to Top Raise significant funds without asking for money! Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? The Board of Trustees thought so! Rochester College has recently partnered with the organization Project 12 Baskets. They auction items on the internet, and share the profits with non-profit organizations like Rochester College. Their home base and warehouse is actually in Rochester Hills! The Associates do not yet have all the information we need to participate in this ongoing fundraising effort, but it is coming. So why are we talking about it NOW? Start cleaning out your basement, attic, and closets, and put these items aside. If you are willing to donate the items, Project-12-Baskets will sell them for us and we will earn money. Hot sale items include cameras, vintage kitchenware, musical instruments, electronics, laptop computers, furniture, televisions, and video games. But they sell most ANYTHING except clothing. We hope to have our information for the November newsletter, or maybe by the October meeting, but please save your stuff so we can turn it into dollars for Rochester College!

When sorrow enters your heart and life it is so encouraging to receive messages of prayers being prayed for you. Thank you for all the responses and words of encouragement in the death of my son, Alan, from pancreatic cancer. He was a faithful and courageous man. I will always remember your kindnesses. In Him.
