Associates Newsletter November 2007 (next issue in Feb. 2008) Thanksgiving is here, and our December White Elephant Party is just around the corner. I hope to see many of you there. We have a lot of things coming up in the coming year and I hope you will make it a priority to participate in many of them. Beginning in August, the College will start the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Rochester College! Watch for more information! The holidays are a good time to order SCRIP (gift certificates) for those special people of yours. In February we will have our stay-at-home tea. You can have a tea party no matter where you live from Florida to Michigan to New York to California. Just have a nice cup of tea and think of all the ladies who are joining you across the country. We will be having the fashion show in April, and we need a chairperson to make it happen. If you are willing to chair this event, or help someone else as a co-chair, please contact Lynne Stewart as soon as possible. As some of you know, several weeks ago I had an accident in which I broke both arms. I learned many things in the two months I was laid up. The most important thing was that I do not know how anyone can get through problems with out the help of God, family and friends. Thank you for your prayers, flowers and cards. Thanks, Lynne, for taking over for me during this time. Please give your prayers and thoughts to the Associates as we try to help the college. If you can help by attending the meetings or participating in some of the projects and events we will be doing let us know. Remember that Jesus said He was about His Father’s work and anything, large or small, that you help with is also about the father’s work. In Christian love, Jeannette Schiele President
Click banner to visit Rochester College website. Back to TopAs I write this, we have only 4 weeks left of classes! In so many ways, this has been a wonderful semester. Our freshman class is filled with young leaders who want to serve Jesus in every aspect of their lives. I have had faculty tell me how pleased they are with the freshmen in their classes. Our returning students have committed themselves to making this semester a positive, Christ-filled time. Students are already registering for next semester. It seems we just get a semester started and we begin the registration for the next semester! We all look forward to the second semester and the new blessings it will bring. Continue to pray that our students experience the mission of Rochester College in their lives. The Associates continued support is so appreciated. As we begin our 50 year celebration, I know the Associates will be an important of these festivities. If you have not been on campus for several years, I hope you will plan on coming to campus at some point during the 50 year celebration. I believe you will be pleased with what you see and hear. I am looking forward to seeing you! Blessings, Michael W. Westerfield, Ph.D. President Rochester College Campus News Events Travel Travel with RC this holiday season! Please let us know when you’re having a chapter meeting, and we will come and meet with you at that time. We are also hoping to encourage some of our inactive chapters to become active again. If you know anyone who is interested in starting or reactivating a chapter, please let us know. You can call Julie at 248-212-7143, or email winterfog2@hotmail.com . We would also like to encourage college students and young professionals to become involved in the Associates. HO! HO! HO! Say Merry Christmas with Gift Cards from SCRIP! By the time you receive this newsletter, there will be approximately 35 shopping days until Christmas. How and where are you doing your shopping? Please consider using SCRIP to purchase your gifts and to GIVE as gifts. Who doesn’t like to get a gift card! I love it! Oh, but it seems so impersonal, you say! What is better – to purchase a gift card to a place where you know that special someone shops, or going out, fighting the crowds, picking out something, only to find out that it is the wrong size, the wrong color, or just plain WRONG?
SCRIP has gift cards to most major clothing stores in the area, most all of the electronics stores, most of the restaurants, and much, much more! Let’s look at an example: | American Eagle | $50 (8%) | | Gap | $50 (9%) | | L.L. Bean | $100 (15%) | | Macy's | $100 (9%) | | Kohls | $100 (4%) | | Parisian | $50 (5%) | | Red Lobster | $25 (9%) | | Chili's | $40 (11%) | | Panera | $40 (9%) | | Starbucks | $40 (7%) | | Best Buy | $100 (2%) | | AMC Theatre | $25 (7%) | | Speedway Gas | $50 (4%) | | Pottery Barn | $50 (8%) | | Toys R Us | $100 (1.5%) | | Dick's Sporting Goods | $50 (8%) |
Total for These Cards: $970 Total Earned for Rochester College = $67.30
I realize some of us spend more, some less. But the figures speak for themselves. One hundred of us doing this would earn $6730.00 for Rochester College! And that’s just for Christmas! SCRIP makes great stocking stuffers, great gifts to those who live far away and great for EVERYONE on your Christmas list. If you are determined to actually SHOP for presents, YOU can use them to do your shopping. We MUST get EVERYONE on board with SCRIP! It is one of the easiest and most profitable ways the Associates can make money. If you are currently not using SCRIP, Christmas time is the PERFECT TIME TO START. Please contact Ann Luchsinger or Lynne Stewart to place your order. Remember, you can pay with cash, checks, Master Card, or Visa!
Fall Festival
As I look out the window of my office, I am amazed that in the middle of November, I am seeing the most amazing fall colors – bright yellow maple leaves against a beautiful blue sky! It reminds me of the scene at past fall festivals. God blessed us with a beautiful day at this year’s Fall Festival, though it felt far more like summer than fall! The Associates had four chapters that participated with booths – Oakland, Parkside, Rochester, and South Lyon. Two other chapters, Downriver and Northeast, were unable to participate that day, but sent in a donation toward our festival proceeds. All together, we raised just under $1,400. Thank you to all who helped in some way, and to all of you who came to campus to offer your support. Your participation and support is greatly appreciated. Mark your calendars NOW! Fall Festival 2008 will be Saturday, September 20, 2008. It will be part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, so begin planning now how you will, as an individual or a chapter, be involved!
Fall Bulb Sale Report 2007 Once again, there are many of you who will have gorgeous yards this coming spring, that is, if you actually PLANT the bulbs you purchased! With the wonderful fall weather with which the Lord has blessed us, no one really has a very good excuse for not getting them in the ground. However, I will admit that I picked a rather cold evening and ended up getting the last ones in the ground after dark! Who knows where they will pop up in April – it will be a great surprise! This fall’s bulb sale raised a total of $750.00. Actual bulb sales profited $660, and donations to the Rochester College flower fund added $90 to the total amount raised. Eight of our chapters and two “non- chapter” groups participated. Our Downriver Chapter was the top sales chapter for the second fall in a row! Thank you to everyone who bought, sold, and donated! If your chapter has not participated in our Bulb Sale before, please consider doing so in the Spring. For more information, please contact Lynne Stewart.

Class of 1977 Endowed Scholarship Established A New endowed Scholarship was announced at the Heritage Club-Endowed Scholarship Dinner, held at the Royal Park Hotel this past Saturday, November 10, 2007. Members of the class of 1977 raised nearly $11,000 to establish this scholarship fund. With an endowed scholarship, the principle amount stays in endowment, and the interest that is earned funds the scholarship. The college is grateful for the generosity of the class of 1977. It is wonderful to see our alumni giving back to the college. In a reunion reception after the dinner, class members talked and sang until midnight, reminiscing of the spiritual and emotional growth they experienced while at “MCC.” “What we experienced here will go with us for the rest of our lives. Who would have thought that the friends I made here are still some of my closest friends 30 years later!” How wonderful it is to hear these comments. As Associates, you are helping to make this experience possible for young people now, just like many of you did thirty years ago for students from the class of 1977. Let us not grow weary in our work, but let us focus on its impact in the lives of our students, now and in the future, just as it has impacted those from the past!
