Associates Newsletter February 2008 Dear Ladies and Gents, We have two great events coming up. The "Stay at Home Tea" is an easy way to raise money. Just invite some people into your home for a tea party, or meet some friends at a favorite spot and each one chip in a donation to send in for the “Tea.” The second event is the Spring Fashion Show. It will be in the afternoon on Saturday, April 5th. Amy Vanz has agreed to chair the show. Let’s have a good turn out and support the Associates and the hard work that goes into putting on this day. If you can not attend, buy a ticket anyway and support the work. Your Board has put in a great deal of time, especially Lynne Stewart, in presenting you with ways of making money with the least amount of work or time on your part. Getting together with your chapter members is a great way to socialize with everyone. Please try to attend the meeting on March 4th. The Board needs your support as do all the Associates. We need your input to determine what to try next to raise money for the college. Remember to "Soar with the Eagles and not grow faint.” Love you all! Jeannette Schiele President
Click banner to visit Rochester College website. Back to TopAs we begin the spring semester, a sense of beginning again fills the campus. New students join our campus community and bring a fresh outlook to the new semester. New beginnings are always a blessing. I guess that is why some make New Year resolutions – a hope of starting fresh. As we approach our 50th year of operation, the 50th year committee on campus is gearing up for a year filled with activities. I know many of you will want to come to campus and take part in these events. Look for information to come your way on all the events planned. The Associates are an important part of our history. Without Associates there would have been times where payroll would not have been met, where loans for buildings would not have been paid, and where students could not have attended Michigan Christian/Rochester College without the Associates Scholarship. Blessings, Michael W. Westerfield, Ph.D. President 50 year celebration

Scrip SCRIP Works! It REALLY does! Jump on the Wagon! In January of 2007, I challenged the employees at Rochester College to jump on the SCRIP wagon! I had been selling scrip to employees for years, but hadn’t really pushed it like I knew I should. So I challenged us to all seriously think about the ways we could use SCRIP gift cards for our everyday purchases, as well as for gifts. I told them I was going to track the purchases so we would know where we stood, and so we could improve for 2008. I created an Excel spreadsheet and put in names and amounts as gift cards were purchased. I am very happy to report that in 2007, fifty-nine Rochester College employee families and ten Rochester College offices purchased a grand total of $41,305 in SCRIP gift cards! At an average rate of 6% profit, that translates to a total contribution to Rochester College of $2,478. That is fantastic!!! In 2008, my goal is to increase the number of families participating by 50%, to a total of 88. If we did that, we could also increase our profit by 50%, for a total raised to over $3,500. I would like to challenge all of you who purchase SCRIP now to talk to a non-SCRIP user about the benefits of the SCRIP program. This can be the best fundraiser the Associates has EVER done. We just need to get EVERYONE on the SCRIP wagon! For more information, to muster up your own wagon, or to jump on someone else’s, please contact Ann Luchsinger or Lynne Stewart. Five hundred families buying $50 a month in SCRIP gift cards would raise $18,000 for Rochester College. WE CAN DO THAT! Please contact Ann Luchsinger or Lynne Stewart to place your order. Remember, you can pay with cash, checks, Master Card, or Visa!
25th Annual Stay-At-Home Tea Share a cup of tea with Associates from around the country February 14, 2008. As you join us for tea reflect on the needs of the college, remember that your contribution will help to further the cause of Christian education in the north. We love to hear from you, especially those Associates who have moved far away from us. Please send your “Stay-at-Home Tea” donations to Catherine Sadurski.

Spring Bulb Sale Coming Soon!
This winter has been very strange, even for Michigan! One day it is cold and snowy and the next day we have thunderstorms! But before we know it, birds will be singing, grass will be getting green, trees and flowers will start budding, and it will be time to plant spring flowers. We will be having the Spring Bulb sale again this year. For each of the last two spring sales, we have raised over $600. As soon as I receive the brochures, I will be contacting chapter coordinators and we will get the sale started. Please consider buying bulbs for your yard, or you may consider making a donation to the college flower fund so that our campus will have beautiful color this spring and summer! If you would like to be a chapter coordinator for the sale, contact me right away! If your chapter has not participated in our Bulb Sale before, please consider doing so this Spring. For more information, please contact Lynne Stewart.
Mark Your Calendar! Associates Annual Meeting - October 11, 2008 As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of Rochester College, the Associates are going to try something NEW! We would like to make our first meeting of the school year a very special one! Our October meeting will officially be called our ANNUAL Meeting. It will be on a Saturday so that our chapter members who are far away can come and still get home before dark. We would like to make this a very special day, with food, fun, business, and inspiration all rolled into one. Our hope is that EVERY chapter will attend, as well as Associates who are not currently associated with a chapter. Please mark the date on your new 2008 calendar, and reserve this day for the Associates. We will begin our day with a devotional. We will follow with a short business meeting, a pot-luck lunch, and activities yet to be determined. More information will come later!
March General Meeting Back to Top Our next general meeting of the Associates will be on Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Gold Room on campus. Please plan to come and be a part of an encouraging time as we meet together to promote and raise money for the college. The Northeast Chapter will be our hostess and will lead our devotional. Carol Passage
