February 2007 Newsletter Associates Associates should be constantly rejuvenated by the infusion of young blood. They need young people with the imagination and the guts to turn everything upside down if they can. They also need old fogies to keep them from turning upside down those things that ought to be right side up. Above all, they need young rebels and old conservatives who can work together, challenge each other’s values, yield or hold fast with equal grace, and continue after each hard-fought battle to respect one another.
Dear Associates, Well postponing our February 13th meeting to February 20th turned out to be a very wise decision. The driving on that Tuesday was really bad. Did you remember to have your “Tea” on February 14th? I know that I totally forgot with all the bad weather and all. But it’s not too late, have tea this week with friends and then all write a check and send them to our treasurer Catherine Sadurski or any board member and she’ll get it to Catherine. A little tea, a cookie or crumpet and a check for Rochester College, what could be better? There are three great fun fund raisers coming up in March. First, there’s the Parisian sale – buy a coupon book for $5 and get $10 off a $10 or more item and 8 coupons for 20% off of 8 items. This is happening on the first Saturday in March, so contact Patty Harrison and to get a supply of the coupon books. The best news is that the Associates get to keep all the money for selling the booklets. So this is 100% profit, what better deal can there be than that? Second, is the Spring Bulb Sale. Get a brochure and sell beautiful bulbs to your friends, neighbors and co-workers. Lynne Steward is the coordinator for this project so contact her if you have any questions. Third is the Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon on Saturday, March 24th. Let’s have a record number at the luncheon and enjoy a new venue and a great lunch as we enjoy great fashions. Please make your plans to be there and bring a friend or two and come join us in celebrating the arrival of spring. See the rest of this newsletter for more details on all of these fund raisers. Remember to pray for the Associates and Rochester College as they work to share Christ with the world. Your sister in service, Linda Jones President
Rochester College Back to Top
The new year has begun with our saying farewell to a faithful Associate. Pauline Montgomery went to be with the Lord last week. As I attended her funeral at the Parkside Church of Christ, I looked around the auditorium and saw many of you who have been so faithful in your support of the Associates and Rochester College. Pauline’s positive spirit came through in all of the comments made that day. She will be missed by all of us. When we lose someone to death, we are reminded of how precious our time is together. I hope all of us will be more aware of our need to “love one another” as we have been taught by our Lord and Savior. Think what a message we would deliver to this world if we all were genuine in our love for one another and if we were determined to seek the good in one another. The Associates have certainly shown their love for one another and the College. Your example of faithful dedication to the cause is rare in today’s selfish world. Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do for Rochester CollegeBlessings, Michael W. Westerfield, Ph.D. President

How Are YOU Using Scrip? Back to Top Notice that I didn’t ask if you were buying SCRIP? I hope that more and more of you are buying SCRIP gift cards on a regular basis. Let me share a SCRIP success story with you.
One of my best SCRIP customers is a young family of three. They had been working with a budget program from Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover.” The budget management system involves determining your budget for all of your categories of spending, and having a money envelope for each one. When the money in the envelope is gone, no more spending in that category is allowed. When Debi began using SCRIP, she determined which categories she could “stock” with SCRIP gift cards instead of cash. The categories included entertainment, eating out, haircuts, groceries, gasoline, clothing, household expenses, home decorating and improvement. It took some thought and pre-planning, but she now purchases over $600 of SCRIP each month, which makes a contribution to the college of approximately $40 per month. That will amount to about $500 for the year from just one family! Debi says that using SCRIP has been the best thing their family has ever done to help them stick to their budget. It has even allowed them to plan ahead for vacations. Please consider your own sending habits and see how you can effectively use SCRIP gift cards for much of your spending. Contact Ann Luchsinger or Lynne Stewart if you have questions about SCRIP, or if you would like to place an order. SCRIP isn’t just to give away – you can use it every day - Ann Luchsinger
