August 2007 Newsletter

Dear Ladies & Gentlemen,

The summer is almost over and we will soon be having our first general meeting of the year.  It is very important for our membership to attend these meetings.  We need your input on ideas we would like to implement.

The Associates are only as strong as our membership.  Each of you is important to the College.  Over the last 49 years you have raised over four million dollars.  We need to let our younger ladies know that when we started out on our quest for Rochester College, we were in our twenty's and thirty's.  The Associates is not an "old ladies group", but a group of people interested in supporting Christian education for our children and our children's children.  Through the grace of God we have come this far.  Let us pray and work to get our younger people to take up the baton and go forward.

We have helped build the college and now we would like to step up our support in building scholarships, but we can only do that through God and you.  One way to accomplish this is by encouraging the folks at your church or Associates group to attend a meeting to discuss who the Associates are and how they can be a part.  We, the Board, and Dr. Westerfield would be glad to come to your meeting and talk about the college and the Associates.  The Lord said “ask and ye shall receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open.”  We must have the faith of the Ladies who started the Associates that we can and will carry on.

To those of you who live out of state or live out of the metro area or who do not have a chapter, you can help by forming a group and working for the Lord in this manner.  We as a Board will do what we can to help you.  Just ask!

In the Lord's service,
Jeannette Schiele
President

Today we received word that Lorraine Church died several days ago.  Lorraine was a long-time Associate who was proud of her membership.  The last time I saw Lorraine was when she attended our Knoxville, TN dinner.  She spoke so fondly of her fellow Associates and recounted many good times she had shared with so many of you.

Lorraine was a faithful supporter of the Associates at Rochester College.  Her regular donations were an important part of our annual fund efforts and she also regularly contributed to the Ralph and Lorraine Church Endowed Scholarship.  This scholarship has provided support for many students attending Rochester College.  The beauty is that this scholarship fund will continue supporting students, allowing them to receive a Christian education.

Lorraine and her late husband, Ralph, were important people in the development of our College.  The Associates is filled with many more just like Lorraine Church, and we could not do what we do without you!

Blessings,
Michael W. Westerfield, Ph.D.
President

Coming soon to a chapter meeting near you: The Board of Trustees would like to start visiting different chapter meetings each month.  Sharon Whitlatch and Julie Harper will be contacting each chapter to see when we might be able to visit with your chapter.  If you have a meeting coming up and you'd like to have us attend, please call Julie at 248-212-7143 or email jharper@rc.edu .  We hope to share ideas and plans with you, and hear from each chapter what you would like to see the Associates doing.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon,

Sharon & Julie

Fall Festival Date Change

The Rochester College Fall Festival is just around the corner!  Do you have your calendar marked?  If not, mark it right now for Saturday, September 22, 2007.  Join us on campus for a wonderful day of fun, food, and fellowship!

At this writing, the Fall Festival is six (6) weeks away.  If you have not yet contacted me, I need to know right away how your chapter would like to participate.  What we need is food and drink!   We have firm commitments from Parkside for their famous Pies and Coffee, Oakland for their delicious Pound Cakes, South Lyon for yummy Homemade Cookies, Popcorn, and Candy Bars and the Alumni Association for juicy Steerburgers!  We have opened up food opportunities to our student groups, so if your chapter wants to sell food, please let me know ASAP!

Please call me at 248-218-2092 (work), or email me at lestewart@rc.edu

Because we are a little earlier in September, we are hopeful and prayerful that we will have beautiful warm weather.  Continue praying for a beautiful day!  Also, talk about the festival with people you know.  Encourage them to come and bring their families.  We would love to have families and friends from all over return to campus for a day of fun and fellowship!

Remember, you may use your Fall Festival proceeds as a project for your Pioneer Spirit Award nominee!  It’s just one more way to raise money for Rochester College.

Fall Bulb Sale

Our fourth annual Fall Bulb Sale will be over on August 27!  We have beautiful flowers from which to choose this year.  Take order forms to your friends and neighbors.

The Associates make 50% profit on this fundraiser.  Let’s work hard to increase our sales and make $1,500.  Better yet, exceed my expectations!  Make $2,000!

Contact me if you have any questions.  If you do not belong to chapter who participates in the sale, please contact me for more information.  Please call me at 248-218-2092 (work), or email me at lestewart@rc.edu.  I would be happy to send you a brochure and order form.

All orders are due to me by MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2007.  Expected delivery is at our first General Meeting, Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

Beautify Your Yard And Help The Associates Support Rochester College!

Where Is Your Pioneer Spirit?

To date, $2,500 has been submitted for our Pioneer Spirit Award summer fundraising campaign.  That is only 17% of our $15,000 goal.  We need to get busy!

If you have completed a project, please send in the money to Ann Luchsinger so that we can post our running total.  Remember that our five candidates must each have at least $1000 raised in their honor.  The top three will earn an honorary Pioneer Pin. Continue your hard work for the last six weeks of this fundraising effort.

All money is due by Monday, September 24th.  If you are participating in the Fall Festival, you may use your chapter proceeds toward the Pioneer Spirit!

General Meeting

Our FIRST GENERAL MEETING of the 2007-2008 year will be on Tuesday, October 2 in the Gold Room on campus at a NEW TIME--7:00 p.m.  You'll be in for an interesting evening!  The Brighton Chapter will be preparing a devotional and special refreshments (you know how special the Brighton chapter can make things!).  We will have the presentation of the winners of our Pioneer Spirit Award for 2007, and Dr. Michael Westerfield, President of Rochester College will be presented with our Pioneer Spirit
